With the merger of two offices, Inspectorate for Personal Data Protection and Commissioner for Access to Public Information the Information Commissioner was established on the basis of the Information Commissioner Act on 31st of December, 2005. Information Commissioner´s competencies are therefore defined in several laws. Some of them, including the most important basic documents are introduced on this websites.
In the Republic of Slovenia, the right to the Acces to public information and the right to Personal data protection are considered as Constitutional rights. They are defined in The Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia.
Slovenian FOI (Freedom of Information) legislation is based on the guidlines of the Article 29 Working party and is harmonised with all European laws dealing with access to public information.
