In 2024, the Information Commissioner (hereinafter IC) responded to the European Commission’s call for project proposals under the CERV-2024-DATA call. The IC applied with the project “Become a PrivacyPRO(tector)”. The European Commission rated the submitted project as one of the highest-scoring proposals, selected it for co-financing, and confirmed its implementation in 2025 and 2026.

The purpose of the PrivacyPRO project is to increase awareness and understanding of data protection principles among children, teachers, parents, and guardians in Slovenia, thereby contributing to a culture of privacy and data protection from an early age. The project’s target group consists of two age groups of children, namely those aged 6 to 10 and those aged 11 to 14, as well as their parents and guardians, teachers, social workers, and other professionals working with children.

Project activities will include:

  • the development of a board game for children focusing on data protection rights;
  • the creation of short comic strips on the topic of data protection;
  • the production of short video clips to raise awareness about data protection rights and privacy;
  • the organization and delivery of educational workshops for teachers;
  • the implementation of a creative contest and exhibition of the submitted works;
  • the awarding of the Privacy Protector Award;
  • the organization and hosting of an open day at the IC;
  • daily professional support for the general public and target groups by IC experts in the form of: free telephone consultations (call 01 230 97 30), written advice (questions can be sent to gp.ip@ip-rs.si), publication of information and educational materials on the IC website, presentation of key content in a manner that is understandable and friendly to children, and delivery of educational lectures at external events.
